As birth photography is becoming more and more common (hallelujah!), there are many hospitals and birth centers welcoming birth photographers and realizing they’re an important part of the birthing team. Check with your providers and you may be surprised!
We can capture your baby’s birth day whether it’s in a hospital, birth center or at home.
As a birth photographer, my goal is to fit totally and completely in to your birth space in a way that fits your unique needs. My intention is to document your story and not alter that space in any way. Laboring with the lights off and one candle burning? Great! Napping while you have a break between contractions? Perfect. Feeling chatty after your epidural kicks in and you need an ear? I’m here for you.
We’ve all heard “it takes a village” when it comes to raising kids, but less so when it comes to birthing those humans. A birth photographer plays a unique role in your birth team. Not only do we capture images of your baby’s first moments in this world in a beautiful way, we also capture the rest of the team supporting you in a way you wouldn’t see otherwise!
We see your husband keeping a cold rag on your head while he holds your hand during a contraction and we know you’ll want to see that moment later. We see your mom wiping your tears when you say, “I can’t do this!” and her reassuring you that you absolutely can and she’s here for you. I know you’ll want that photo to show your kids someday. We see your doula and your midwife helping you find a position to work your baby down lower and relieve the pain in your back. How amazing to look back on these most emotional and intense moments of your life.
The best part of birth photography is that it’s so much more than the moment of delivery. Birth photography packages also include a maternity session so I can get to know you and your family, and go over the ins and outs of your birth plan including what photos you do and do not want taken and/or shared! You don’t have to have any crowning photos or even the moment of delivery. And if you initially want those photos and decide later that it’s not for you…that’s okay, too! We’re here to capture everything that makes your day special and memorable to you.
